Ancient language status sought for Telugu-Speakers at a seminar on `Recognition of Telugu language as ancient and second official language'held on February 6,2006 stressed the need for recognition of Telugu as ancient language.Organised by the School of Folk and Tribal Lore, Telugu University,Warangal,Andhra Pradesh,it was attended by poets, writers and laureates. School dean N. Bhakthavatsala Reddy said as part of the efforts to secure Telugu an ancient language status, it was decided to organise seminars at the district-level. People of different regions would be apprised of the efforts being made in this direction.- Here's good news for all those who wish to learn to write the Telugu alphabet and simple sentences in just a few hours flat!The School of Wonder Kids (Visakhapatnam)which had entered the Limca Book of Records in 2004 for teaching UKG children to write the English alphabet in three hours and later, making LKG kids write it in two hours, has now turned its attention to teaching class III children in writing the Telugu alphabet and simple sentences in six hours-Gopichand award for Mullapudi Venkataramana-prominent novelist,producer and director Mullapudi Venkataramana was presented with the Tripuraneni Gopichand award by Yuvakala Vahini on December 29,2005.- Telugu University announces annual literary awards for the best books for 2004.Following is the list:`Sandarbham' (Free Verse) authored by Kandukuri Sriramulu, `Bhagavadramanuja Charithram' (verse poetry) by Baadala Ramaiah, `Vaana Chinukulu' (lyrical poetry) by Vaaranaasi Nagalakshmi, `Mana Vaarasatvam' (children's literature) by Velaga Venkatappaiah, `Amuktha Malyada - Sahitya Aadhyathmika Sameeksha' (Literary criticism) by Kotha Venkateswara Rao (posthumous), `Astitvanadam Aavali Teerana' (short story) by Munipalle B.Raju, `Vendimeegham' (novel) by Saleem, `Asrughosha' (drama) by Jeedigunta Ramachandra Murthy, `Sweetchakosam Oka Vihanga Yaatra' (translation) by J.Chennaiah, `Samsaaraalu' (others) by Sudhama, `Varnanisi'( from the books written by women writers) by Chillara Bhavani Devi. Jaya Prabha has been chosen for the best woman writer award, Nirmala Sankara Sastry - best Sanskrit scholar and Syed Sirajuddin - best Urdu scholar award. The awards have been presented on December15,2005.
